01.09.2010. First open call is launced for researchers from Latvia within the Scholarship Fund The Scholarship Fund is implemented within the framework of Swiss Scientific Exchange Programme which forms a part of Swiss financial contribution to new EU Member States.
The programme aims at facilitating research stays in Swiss research teams to Doctoral Candidates and PostDocs from the 8 New Member States of the European Union (Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia). The Sciex Fellows will be fully integrated in the on-going research work, contribute their own ideas and results and benefit from specific knowledge through exchanges with experienced professionals and young researchers.
The deadline for submission of applications is 1st November 2010.
The Scholarship Fund will be implemented by the Swiss institution the Rectors' Conference of the Swiss Universities; however the implementation of the Fund in Latvia will be coordinated by the Education Development State Agency. (http://www.viaa.gov.lv/).

06.04.2010 The Society Integration Foundation has announced a call for proposals for the submission of applications for subprojects within the framework of the Swiss-Latvian Cooperation Programme’s block grant NGO Fund.

According to the informative report on the implementation of the Swiss-Latvian Cooperation Programme in Latvia approved in the Cabinet of Ministers on 4 December 2007 open calls for individual projects within the Swiss-Latvian Cooperation Programme are not planned to be announced. With the above mentioned informative report was approved the list of priority project activities submitted by the line ministries, corresponding to focus areas and criteria set in the Framework Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Latvia and the Swiss Federal Council concerning the Implementation of the Latvian - Swiss Cooperation Programme.
There will be open calls for subprojects within the block grants “NGO fund” and “Scholarship fund”.
The intermediate body for the NGO fund is the Society integration foundation (http://www.lsif.lv/). There is one open call for subprojects foreseen, where eligible institutions for submission of subprojects will be nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) registered in Latvia (societies, foundation, religious organizations acting for public benefit). The announcement of the open call is planned in the 1st quarter of 2010. Overall objective is to promote civil society's contribution to economic and social cohesion by supporting NGOs activities increasing life quality of children, youth and retired persons.

There is planned single open call annually from 2010 to 2014. First open call in September 2010. The Scholarship fund aims to foster scientific capacities of researchers and promote sustainable research partnership between Latvia and Switzerland. With the help of the Scholarship fund Latvian PhD students will be able to temporarily continue their research projects in Switzerland. Within the Scholarship fund will be provided two interlinked instruments for research scholarships for junior researchers as well as for short-term research visits for senior researchers. Scholarships will be provide to PhD students to conduct research project in eligible Swiss research institutions and those who pursue postdoctoral research with the intention to qualify for professorship, while for the short-term research visits can apply both the Latvian and Swiss senior researchers, who are encouraged to engage in their own research activities and act as mentors to junior researchers.
